It's not like us to be cancelling events. Normally, we're the College at Guelph where all the fun things happen. It feels decidedly out of character this past week cancelling all the exciting events we've organized in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dean-ing from home

Today President Vaccarino sent a letter to staff and faculty about changes to way the university works in lights of developments and decisions around the COVID-19 pandemic.

Deans read books too (though not as many as we’d like)

It's the holiday season and in my house, no surprise, books are a frequent gift. I love the idea of a Christmas tradition where people exchange books on Christmas Eve. In Iceland, it's called "Jolabokaflod" or "Yule book flood." I read a lot of philosophy and academic writing about universities and governance. Fiction feels like a treat.

Welcome Back Arts Gryphons!

As we enter the third full week of classes, I think I'm ready to pause, catch my breath, and wish you a warm "Welcome back!" It's been a very busy start of term. Each September I sort of wonder whether September just feels busy in comparison with August's leisurely pace. But no, it's just that busy. I'm just now catching my breath and getting back to my blog.
