Dear College of Arts Students, Staff, and Faculty,
This is a marathon, not a sprint
Letter to the College of Arts community
Dean’s Log, Stardate 3/19/2020
I'm blogging regularly these days now that we are all #WorkingFromHome, or #WFH. When I first posted I was working at the dining room table. Since then there have been some family discussions and some moving of furniture. I've acquired a makeshift desk in our back room. Check out the photo below. I was heartened to see that even our Prime Minister is making do in a home office, even though his is nicer than mine.
Dogs and Dean-ing at Home
That's my dog Cheddar.
#StayAtHome but #StayInTouch
It's not like us to be cancelling events. Normally, we're the College at Guelph where all the fun things happen. It feels decidedly out of character this past week cancelling all the exciting events we've organized in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dean-ing from home
Today President Vaccarino sent a letter to staff and faculty about changes to way the university works in lights of developments and decisions around the COVID-19 pandemic.
Arts students do well financially, so why do we need to bridge the gap?
Deans go to the theatre and music too
Deans read books too (though not as many as we’d like)
It's the holiday season and in my house, no surprise, books are a frequent gift. I love the idea of a Christmas tradition where people exchange books on Christmas Eve. In Iceland, it's called "Jolabokaflod" or "Yule book flood." I read a lot of philosophy and academic writing about universities and governance. Fiction feels like a treat.
